Our Top 5 Tags Right Now: Sneakers November 2019

1. Nike Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Shattered Backboard 3.0

Drop Date:

October 26th 2019

What’s the Damage:

£180 - £350

Editors Notes:

Jordan's third take in the Air Jordan 1 OG High model but the fifth in the Shattered Backboard series, there's also a women’s satin version and an Air Jordan 1 Low, (I think I might be the only one who appreciates the lows!). The sneaker’s release arrived just in time for Halloween, boasting the holiday’s popular iconic colours of orange and black. This makes it a perfect shoe to wear for autumn and winter.

A cool new feature is the crinkled patent leather incorporated into the 3.0 design. Don’t worry about these getting dirty in cold and rainy months, that shit will slide rightttt off, (still use a shoe protector though!). The great thing about these is that unlike its predecessors, the resale price is fairly reasonable for a shoe that is ridiculously stylish and therefore makes our top tags list.

Asap Rocky in Shattered Backboard 1.0, @uwabakicks in Shattered Backboard 3.0 (Right)

History Lesson:

These are called Shattered Backboard as MJ literally shattered the backboard on a nasty dunk in an exhibition game in Italy, 1985. He donned the orange, black and white uniform and thus the Shattered Backboard design was born.

Now this is a sneaker that does not get enough credit. If you’re looking for something stylish, comfortable and ‘cheap as chips’, well in comparison to other sneakers in the market, then the NB 997 Sport is the shoe for you. This range comes in an array of dope colors and does the job a sneaker is required to do, looking cool and feeling snug on the feet. At a starting price point of £90, they are reasonably priced, although they are on sale going for much less for some models, so you can’t really go wrong with this one.

Kawahi Leonard in New Balance 997 Sport

History Lesson:

Engineered by the renowned creative mind that is Steven Smith the New Balance 997s were born in the early 90s. A more audacious take than his previous designs; introducing new tech and components that make it easy to slip on and feels good to wear, as well as a cool look at the forefront of the shoe itself. These elements remain at NB’s core principle for this particular project, the only difference now is that the shoe has been redesigned to meet current needs and requirements as we head into 2020. That’s almost 3 decades since the original designs were first created.

3. Nike Air Force 1 Low 07 LV8 ‘What The LA’

Drop Date:

November 1st 2019

What’s the Damage

£350- £550

Editors Notes:

With the NBA season fully underway, and if you’ve been following the crazy summer of trades this year in the worlds most famous basketball league, then you’ll know Los Angeles is the place to be right now! The 2 best players in the league face off in the Staples Center, Lebron James and Kawahi Leonard. It really can’t get more crazy and hype than that, and in Nike fashion they have outdone themselves again and made a sneaker that embodies LA perfectly. Just in time before it all kicks off too.

The sneaker featuring Laker Purple and Gold on its heel side, Clipper Black, Red and Blue throughout as well as paying homage to its other sport teams the Rams, Dodgers and Kings, it is just swaggering with the brightest and most vibrant colours, a true representation the glam and shine of what is the ‘City of Angels” and all the people in it. Each foot is different, so although they are a pair, there’s no matching here, its even got basketball leather and baseball stitching on it. Clearly a lot of innovation went into this one and I for one just love it!

£75 - £120 (prices may vary for certain colour-ways)

Editors Notes:

Adidas teamed up with the 2018 Thrasher Skater of the Year' Tyshawn Jones to release his first Signature Shoe and as you can see, these ones are fiyaaa on and off the skate park. A very similar impression to the Adidas Gazelle but with a boxier and mid top feel to it.There are distinct overlays on the heel, toe and mid-panel, with the signature 3 stripes and gold foil inscripting “Tyshawn". Whether you want to ball out on the court or just show off the your swag in the streets, these will catch the eye of most trend followers.

Overall the shoe has combined skating and basketball concepts to create a pretty cool and fashionable shoe.

Tyshawn Jones Kickflip - NYC, in Adidas Tyshawn Green Suede

History Lesson:

Tyshawn Jones, just a normal kid from the Bronx, NYC whose career has skyrocketed in recent years. From taking a passion of skating into a livelihood featuring as an Adidas and Supreme rider, it doesn’t really get much better than that. Only 20 years old, we are sure to see more from the wonderkid, and I for one am excited to see what projects he comes out with next.

5. Vans OG Old Skool LX Suede

Drop Date:

Available Now

What’s the Damage:

£65 - £80

Editors Notes:

This shoe comes in 3 different colourways of black, white and plaza taupe. Naturally the style follows the iconic Vans look but there’s a slight twist, the material is Suede all the way round, except for the heightened sole, which is a nice addition to the overall look.

Like most sneakers from Vans, they are affordable, quite low key yet ooze with classic style and…well they’re Vans. Simplicity at it’s finest. The only downside with this particular model is that you would have to find a good shoe cleaner as it is suede throughout most the shoe but asides that these are perfect for most occasions.

History Lesson:

They're Vans!
